Most of my clients are couples and individuals seeking relief from relationship distress. This might include emotional disconnection, unresolved conflict, parenting stress, blending families, infidelity, divorce, living with mental and chronic illness, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and other issues.
I am a dually licensed therapist trained in both individual counseling at the partial hospitalization level of care as well as in outpatient counseling with a specialization in family systems.
As an LPC intern on the clinical treatment team at Meier Clinics, I worked alongside medical staff in an intensive outpatient/partial hospitalization setting to provide treatment planning and implementation for patients experiencing debilitating anxiety, depression, prior trauma, bi-polar disorder, suicidal ideation, and mild psychosis.
As an MFT intern at UT Southwestern, I saw families and couples in the Department of Psychiatry’s Family Studies Center. I have worked closely with two different school systems in the Dallas area to provide critical care services to families who need them. I also worked with couples in distress; my primary modality being Emotionally Focused Therapy, a structured and highly researched form of therapy based on adult attachment and bonding. I have completed the EFT Externship and Core Skills Training through ICEEFT and am currently working under supervision toward completing this specialized certification. In addition, I provided services at the UTSW ALS clinic to support individuals, families, and staff contending with the impact of this condition. I also offer Discernment Counseling for couples contemplating divorce.
Many of my clients choose to work with me because of my background in Christian ministry. For them, it helps increase a sense of safety as they choose to take steps toward becoming less guarded and more known. If a client wishes to incorporate these values into his/her therapeutic process, I can do so. However, ethically, my own practice otherwise adheres to state licensing board approved interventions.
My own 25-year marriage, four children, and personal venture through long-term psychodynamic therapy will, I hope, further inform my understanding of your issues. When not working, I enjoy reading, travel, barre classes, and body boarding wherever I can find good waves!
I am fueled by my passion to facilitate clients into new emotional experiences that change the way they understand relationships. I believe that the quality of our relationships directly impacts mental health. Readily attainable responsiveness to emotional needs and fears can go a long way toward effectively coping with stress, lowering anxiety, increasing resilience, and taking healthy risks toward new growth.
